Blushing Mir

So... Hello!!!

I've had a Mir sitting on my shelf for months now (for various reasons) and I finally decided to keep her and unbox her. The only reason I wasn't sure about her was that she doesn't have a good skin tone for an obitsu match.

In my wisdom (and after reading alot about customising) I decided I could blush her face so it was the right colour match for an obitsu. So last night I unboxed her and started on the blushing. Stupid really as I have no sealer, I'm sure I should have sprayed a coat before I started and now I have to wait until the sealer arrives so I can put her back together. But hey, I just wanted to have a go.

So, we all know how pale Mir is but here is a few before pictures. Sorry about the lighting, I didn't start until after dark!!!

You can see how pale she is compared to Larke (Kirsche), who is a fantastic colour match to an obitsu.

I chose my pastel colours and got to blushing. I was scared to go too dark at first but I soon realised I needed the colour to be darker than she was so I jumped in. I mixed a pale pink, with a rusty brown, a tiny bit of dark brown and a tiny bit of a dark red. That mix came up the best. I had some magic erasers that I bought when I got Myste, as I intended to customise her. I started again a few times but I finally got to a point I was happy with.

If you compare the above picture to how white she was originally it is quite a difference! I'm so impressed with myself. I just hope she will stay as nice as that until the sealer arrives!!

Here she is next to her old body...

She looks more tan here than she actually is but you can see ther difference! She'll be on BRH's old body until I order her an obitsu. I want to get one for Myste anyway (although I did ask Father Christmas for her body... we'll see if he can come up with the goods!!)

More after shots;

I think its a pretty good match, its a little too yellow but I think I'll add a coat of sealer (when it gets here) and then pink it up a notch. I'm very pleased with the overall result and I can't wait until she's finished.

While she was apart I took the chance to re-chip her and sand and repaint her eyelids. I'll keep the colours to myself so I can do a reveal at a later date!!

Anyway, Christmas is coming and I need to a Christmas shoot with the girls. In fact, I need to put christmas decorations up!!! I can't believe its only 15 days until christmas!! EEEP!

Happy Christmas and thanks for looking!

A Trio of Nutters - Extended Bio's

HAPPY MONDAY PEOPLE!!!

WARNING - LONG POST!!!

So, I have eventually got around to posting the shortened version of the girls bio's on Pullip Fiction. I can't believe they turned out so long and seriously, I have spent hours on these getting them right (I'm such a doll geek). I'd love to think I would make a pic fic with these characters but I don't think that will ever happen. I just wanted to get their characters right in my head and doing this really helped. Anyway, here are the extended versions!!

Myste Muggins

Type: Pullip Peter Pan, Type 4 body
Modifications: New Monstro Designs fake fur wig,
new modified coolcat eye chips and added lashes

Character Info:
Full name: Myste Muggins
Birthday: 9th February
Age: 19
Nationality: English
Star Sign: Aquarius

Hobbies:
Reading, her favourite authors are George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, George Saunders, JG Ballard and Haruki Murakami. Listening to music, mainly kooky stuff like Regina Spektor, Ana Brun, Ingrid Michaelson, some 60's and 70's like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, some 50's music as well. Watching old films, foreign films, retro cartoons, manga and anime.

She sings fantastically and plays the piano – but was never taught how - she plays completely by ear. She writes her own songs but just keeps them for herself. If she's particularly pleased she may sing it to Larke or Effery. She will sometimes also play as an accompaniment for Larke's cello.

School:
She completed her GCSE's and left school, she started A levels in college but had to leave when she was admitted to hospital with her anorexia.

Sexual orientation: Straight.

Likes:
Larke's home brewed wine, pineapple and strawberries. Anything shiny, vintage clothes, a good book, a coffee and her favourite chair. Staying up late and watching black & white films like Casablanca.

Dislikes:
Books - Mills and Boon, Sweet Valley High, cheesy romance novels (she's a book snob). Soaps on TV, high heeled shoes, the colour pink, and instant coffee. Mean, bitchy people. Dance music and anything too loud so that she can't hear the voices in her head.

Habits: She picks her nose, talks & sings to herself.

Parents: George and Maud Muggins.
Siblings: Malachai
Closest friend/s: Larke & Effery

Significant Other:
No-one right now. She can't stand emo boys, but she's in no rush. She doesn't feel like she needs a guy to complete her life right now, but hopefully one day someone will come along.

Personality:
Myste is a softy at heart, but often her outer-shell shields others from seeing this. She is a very loyal and loving creature, so when someone is let in she'll stick to them like glue, or like a limpet to a ship.

Around new people she will seem quiet and shy, but around people she's comfortable with she'll be quietly confident – but not arrogant. She's a humble person but can be quite bubbly around the right people.

Underneath everything she's a born leader, strong and forthright, but its not often you'll see this side of her. She's very black and white but tries her best to see the other colours of the world.

Myste is very creative and her brain never stops ticking. Her worst enemy is boredom. She'll often wake up in the night with an idea and have to get up write it down (there's always a notebook by the bed). She also often has problems sleeping due to thoughts, ideas (and possibly voices?).

If you ask Myste for her opinion she will be
straight forward and frank. She can't stand mind games, treachery, dishonesty and bitchiness and has no time for
anyone who possesses any of these traits.

Negative aspects:
She hides in her shell and won't let many people in and will often keep her feelings to herself, hidden under a mask of "I'm fine". When pushed into a corner emotionally it will come out and surprise people and not in a good way. This is rare though, she is an incredibly patient person.

History:
Myste had a very happy childhood and was very close to her older brother Malachai. During the early part of their childhood their Parents moved a lot, which disturbed their childhood, which is probably why they were so close and never found a best friend to match their relationship.

Fortunately, their parents settled in a small village
South of London. They loved being outside and their parents
built a rope swing on a tree for them, which they shared.
Tragically, on Malachai's 15th birthday, he got quite drunk
at his party at home and fell off the swing from a great
height. The impact killed him instantly. Since the
accident Myste has been in turmoil.

After Malachai's death, her parents moved to Hampshire to be nearer their parents. Myste had a hard time at school and was teased for her London-ish accent. She had very few friends as she wouldn't let anyone in. She also insisted on dying her gorgeous blonde hair bright blue, which made her stand out from the crowd. Her stubborness and opinionatedness made her stand out even more. The other kids at school either teased her or quietly admired her feirceness and confidence at times.

She stopped eating most things, the only thing she could stomach was strawberries and black filtered coffee. She became very good at hiding the fact she wasn't eating from her parents. The lack of food stunted her growth and she is slightly shorter than most girls of her age.

When her parents realised (which took years, they weren't very observant, Malachai's death hit them pretty hard too) she was eventually admitted to a psychiatric unit where she met Larke. The girls formed a tight bond over a small period of time until she was diagnosed with Anorexia and depression and sent to a specialist unit on the mainland.

Occupation:
Myste is taking steps towards paid employment by doing
some voluntary work, she reads stories to children in
the library and also helps out a a centre for children
with learning disabilities.

Larke Petunia Peaceful-Day

Type: Pullip Kirsche
Modifications: New Monstro designs fur wig, new modified coolcat eye chips, SBH-M Obitsu and added lashes.

Character Info:
Full Name: Larke Petunia Peaceful-Day
Birthday: 24th January
Age: 22
Nationality: English
Star Sign: Aquarius

Hobbies:
Reiki, reading - mainly books on different religions, spirituality and healing. She collects crystals and gems. She's very creative and likes to cook and makes her own wine. She also taught herself how to play the cello (and any other instruments she can find) and sometimes will play with Myste on the Piano. She also makes natural medicines, soap, lotions etc. She also likes to play anything childish, hide and seek is her favourite.

School: Homeschooled
Sexual orientation: Straight.

Likes:
Lego, crafts, marmite, reiki, meditation, healing groups, paperchase, old things, making weird plushies, Myste's singing, bright things and helping people.

Dislikes:
Mean people, mustard, organised religion,
tension and reggae music.

Habits:
Tends to interrupt conversations with random comments and has a very short attention span, so is very easily distracted.

Parents: David & Zinnia Peaceful-Day
Siblings: None
Closest friend/s: Myste & Effery

Significant Other:
Not yet, she's not in a place where romance is possible.

Personality:
Childlike, playful, placid & mellow but has times of panic. She relies more on feelings and gut instinct than knowledge although these often come to blows in her head, getting confused over human emotion and logic. She is generally a bubbly, happy and gregarious girl.

She appears as very confident and outgoing, but often this is a mask and sometimes her communication and thought processes seem very unusual and random, which makes her seem unusual but this is a personality trait which she adores and plays up on.

She is deeply intuitive and picks up on the feelings of people around her. She's caring, precocious, imaginative and naive.
She has a very loving, caring nature and is trustworthy and honest.

Negative aspects:
Doesn't suffer fools gladly, She sometimes likes
to bamboozle people with riddles or cryptic metaphors which
sound poetic and lyrical, challenging new people with what
seem random subjects. This depends on the person though and
if people stick around for the challenge they tend to
become great friends of hers who love to pick her brain
on various subjects.

If she doesn't take her medication, has caffeine or doesn't get enough sleep she can become physcotic (not in the killer sense, more the hyper sense) or can go into psychosis. This is very rare though.

History:
Larke is an only child and was homeschooled by her grandpop Stan, who was Professor Emeritus at the University of Cambridge. They lived on a farm with 2 other families and Stan homeschooled them all. Larke has extraordinary intelligence and her ability in all subjects surpassed her peers. Larke was rejected by the other children on the farm who called her 'the weirdo witch' and spent most of her time with her Grandpop and the animals on the farm.

Larke had a very strict christian upbringing and tragically in her mid teens her parents became aware of her 'healing abilities' and sent her to a psychiatric unit on the Isle of Wight. It was there she found her first friend - Myste, the girls clicked instantly and when Myste was moved the girls stayed in touch.

Occupation:
Larke is studying part time to become a Reiki master and also does some voluntary work in a local vets.

Effery Olwyn Emerson

Type: Pullip Bloody Red Hood, Type 4 body.
Modifications: Modified Coolcat Eyechips, painted black pearlescent eyelids, Obitsu SBH-M, added lashes, Leeke Wig.

Character Info:
Full Name: Effery Olwyn Emerson
Birthday: 7th September
Age: 21
Nationality: English
Star Sign: Virgo

Hobbies:
Writing (short stories mainly), reading (she likes things
like Brideshead Revisited, anything by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Christopher Isherwood, Graham Greene and Myste got her into Haruki Murakami, Aldous Huxley & George Orwell),
doing puzzles, sketching and painting. Going to galleries on her own, she loves artists like Lowry, William Morris, Edward Armitage & Flora Twort.

School:
Effery completed school and is
studying to become a counsellor.

Sexual orientation: Straight

Likes:
Quiet time to think, vintage clothing, is obsessed with the early 1900's, absinthe, her favourite colour is dark blue, low lighting & candles, open fires, tea, trees, elephants, traditional & modern folk music.

Dislikes:
Loud shouty music, loud clubs & pubs, obnoxious people, modern art like Tracy Emin, things made of plastic, spiders and 80's style furniture.

Habits:
Effery likes to observe people so she is often extremely quiet in large groups.

Parents: Humphrey & Winifred Emerson
Siblings: A younger sister
(she doesn't talk about her sister much)
Closest friend/s: Larke & Myste

Significant Other:
No one at the moment, she's had some hard times with men and doesn't plan on being involved with anyone for a while.

Personality:
Extremely quiet, shy and and amenable, happy to let others take centre stage and enjoys observing others in this way. She's incredibly kind hearted (which is sometimes taken advantage of), creative and sensitive.

Typically old english as a moss stone and a polite cough. She speaks the 'queen's english' unlike Larke's Dorset twang and Myste's slight London tones.

She's a delicate girl who, like an orchid, needs nurturing to shine, but when she shines, she shines like a star. Seeing this is extremely rare though, especially for anyone but her closest of friends.

No matter what life has thrown at her Effery still manages to maintain her faith in life and mankind, stubbornly refusing to to become cynical. She will happily give her time to her friends when they meed her love and support and is an excellent listener.

She is a giver and a very loyal friend. If your chips are down and you need a friend, she is always available should you need advice or companionship. She cares deeply about her close friends and finds her friendship between Larke & Myste incredibly rewarding compared to past friendships.

She likes time alone to reflect on her thoughts and
situations. She finds it hard to be around people all
the time and will often not be heard from for days at a
time, but luckily she has good friends who need
her which keeps her going.

Negative aspects:
Because she likes spending time on her own she can become disconnected from the world.

History:
Effery was a quiet child and had a happy childhood where she was left to her own devices a lot of the time, which suited her nicely. She got together with her childhood sweet heart after leaving school, who unfortunately turned into a possessive, controlling, angry man. He took advantage of her caring nature often playing powerful mind games and made her feel useless. Unfortunately this spiralled her into a deep depression, and he made her life miserable and unfulfilled
for a few years.

When her parents stepped in and encouraged her to leave this man, they took her back home and gentle nurtured and encouraged her to study. She studied how to be a counsellor and volunteered with a local charity giving people vocational advice which although still shy increased her confidence in her knowledge.

Effery still lives with her folks on the southcoast as it helps her from becoming too isolated. She also visits Larke & Myste quite often to listen to music, watch films and talk to Myste about books.

Occupation:
Effery no longer volunteers for vocational advice
but is now doing her work placement in order to become
a qualified counsellor. She also works in a quiet
independent bookshop in Bournemouth.

Myste and Larke met in a psychiatric unit on the Isle of Wight. Since being discharged Larke and Myste live together in a kooky old flat in Bournemouth. They rely heavily on each other in certain ways and love living together. It gives each of them someone else to look after other than themselves which I think keeps them going.

Myste met Effery in a bookshop in Bournemouth. Effery was working there and they got talking about different books. After a while of Myste going in there just to talk to her they exchanged numbers and have been friends ever since. Larke warmed to Effery immediately, she'll often be the one phoning Effery when she hasn't been seen for a few days and regularly gives her reiki treatment.

Etsy Shop

So after alot of hard work I finally got around to actually creating my Etsy Shop!

Ok, so I named it after my blog, so sue me, I like it. This blog however, will remain my personal blog, it is not going to become I place I just post new items on. I'm still a Pullip Collector and I will still post about my girls and my adventures with the hobby!

It just feels like a massive achievement just to have got it started I just hope people like my stuff and might buy something!! I can't complain though, I've managed to sell some of the things I did when I first started that I really didn't think were any good, which was a massive hurdle for me! And then for the buyer to tell me she felt I undercharged her, woah, that was awesome. It really gave me the confidence in my clothes that I make now. I'm really starting to have confidence in my abilities to create cute well made clothes and not just for my dolls. I'm just waiting for the moment I see clothes I have made on other peoples dolls. That will be awesome!!!

Today I also got around to actually do some customization on my girls. I love Effery, my Bloody Red Hood, but I'm really not a fan of her purple eyelids. My plan was to paint them a pearlescent black. I had all the materials apart from sand paper and Toby managed to find me some wet and dry paper from Halfords, so this afternoon, I sanded painted and added new eyelashes to my gorgeous girl. I have yet to take pictures but I'm loving the fact that as I'm typing this post she is curled up on the table next to me sleeping. It may be the gorgeous brothers cider talking but I feel like I'm gaining more and more confidence in this hobby and I'm really hoping the etsy shop will be the icing on the cake!

Although I have no pictures of Effery's new eyelids etc yet, but I do have a few pictures from my Etsy shoot to share!

I'm hoping to do a xmas shoot of my own soon and also get some pics of Effery's new eyelids but until then I'll leave you with a link to my shop... eeps... I have a shop!!!!

Thanks for looking!!!

p.s. some of the new shoes are in the pics for the shop but I will try and get some pics of them too!! They are so cute!!

Before her head fell off...

I've just been away at my parents and decided to take the girls with me as I was waiting for Effery's new body & wig and I got them sent there instead.

They both arrived quickly and promptly thanks to the great sellers I bought them from on Pullip Fiction.

As my parents house is extremely white I figured I might be able to take some pics of the girls but only managed to get a few of Effery before my camera battery died. I knew I should have taken the charger.

At the end of the weekend I was packing the girls up carefully for the journey home Effery's head fell right off. I was devastated... :(   Luckily I've managed to fix it using the same method I used for Larke and also tightened Larke's head off as it had become incredibly wobbly. So now none of my girls have wobbly heads!!! YAY!!!

I ordered some shoes for them from Hotdots-Blythe on ebay which are amazing. I had to redress all of my girls wearing their new shoes. I'll try and take pics soon!! I've also been mega busy sewing loads of clothes. I'm hoping to get an Etsy shop running before December as I've also made some awesome Father Christmas hats and fur lined capes for winter and I figured they would be good for the christmas buyers. I just have to get on with it!!!

Thanks for looking!!

Pullip Wishlist

In January it will be a particularly special birthday for me (cough 30 cough) and my lovely lovely Mum said she would consider buying me a special doll for it. EEEEEEEP!!!!!!!

So... I went to the task of finding my 'grail' dolls.

At first thought I would have said Papin but after ALOT of research I decided not to put her on there, mainly because there are so many other dolls who (in my humble opinion) are much prettier and actually better stock! So... my list is as follows;

Angelique
Her hair!!!! Its just so nice pretty and her face, so angelic ha ha ha!!! I also love her stock, she is just such a cute Pullip. Plus she is from an anime! Although I've never seen it (Chewie ((my anime guru))said its a bit poo) I just seem to have a bit of a thing with the anime Pullips. Maybe its the eyes. I nearly got a Souseiseki, but the deal fell through. Meh... Win some...lose some.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaela
What can I say, great stock outfit with more than one usable peice. Plus lovely full lips that aren't too overpowering and the shape of the lips that I felt were quite unusual. She also has very versatile colouring in her face. I've seen her in numerous different wigs and they all seem to suit her. And check out the shoes, just my style!!!

I just think she is such a pretty and versatile doll and not overpriced. Just lovely.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Melody

She may look a bit insepid here, but the combination of the pink wig, red bunny ears and yellow eyes don't do her any favours. However, the stock has various interchangeable pieces AND she comes with a VERY cute little mouse friend!!! I'm sold, actually she's sold, I just found out she's sold on Pullip Style now, which is probably going to push the price up, which means I'll probably NEVER get her (Ma I hope you're reading this... lol ;)

She has such a lovely face up, again very versatile and probably one doll I won't change the eye chips of. They are just so unusual and I have seen various dolls with a different wig but her eyes still pop out. She is just such a cute doll. How can you resist this? Not me!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prupate

She is one of the few dolls I like with darker eyes. I guess I'm more of a pale eyes person. I like them to sparkle!!

Her wig is also super cute and her stock outfit, however loud it is altogether, again many interchangable peices. Plus I love her shoes!!! She doesn't come with a cute mouse but she does come with head gear. Any Pullip with hats or head-ornaments is ok with me (I'm a hat fan!!).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tiphona
Last but by no means least. Again, this is one Pullip I would not be changing the eye chips of. Its so hard to buy a good green colour eyechip without buying one of the chips that look like acrylic eyes (they look a little bit too real sometimes!).

The stock isn't amazing (in my opinion) but again, interchangable peices, and a bag (I'm short on bags). My thought is, if a doll has at least 4 items of stock I would use over and over again its worth having a stock outfit. The tights, bag, bow and shirt alone is enough to sway me... Plus her face-up is just darling, I love her eyebrows, its a crime to cover those up with a fringe. Another very versatile doll.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would be proud to own any one of these dolls. They are all just adorable!! I'm not sure I would know which one to choose if someone had a gun to my head?

I had to massively shorten the list and I wasn't going to include Tiphona. I felt she and My Melody were too similar, but then, I'm not buying them all, just one more... (famous last words)

I think as My Melody has just been taken off PS I would probably now call her my grail doll, you know, the rarer ones that are super expensive, yeah... not that I want her more than the other, just that its more likely I'll get the others before...

New Girl - Bloody Red Hood

I had a very exciting morning just yesterday. I had been expecting a little package but didn't think it would arrive so soon!!!

I've been looking for a new girl for about a month, I wasn't quite sure who I wanted I was just after a good deal (with a Pullip I liked obviously!!) and was having a hard time finding one. I'd been looking on Live Journal and had made (and been offered) various deals, one of which was ridiculous (a swap for a NRFB doll for a damaged one with no eyelids... I don't think so,) so when I noticed a deal on a split that was just too hard to resist. I did a really smooth deal with buboplague and would highly recommend her to deal with.

So... I'm now the proud owner of a Bloody Red Hood and I'm totally in love with her. I have added some modified eye chips and I'm hoping to obitsu her and get her a new wig (when the funds are less tight!).

So I guess I should add at least one photo...

Okay, okay you can have more...

A friend of ours studiply left his hat here after our halloween party so thanks to Cel she has a seat!!!

I'm stuck on names with her though... I've been through quite a few and none seemed to fit so after a bit more research I'm torn between Effery and Emolyn.

Effery comes from the name Aphra which is of Hebrew origin and literally translates as Dust. In the Old Testament of the Bible the House of Aphra is mentioned which means house of dust which makes sense to me in a way. There was an Affery in Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens and now I know the meaning it kind of suits the character. Affery was also used in the period between 1450 & 1650.

Emolyn is a shortening of the name Emmeline which was used between 1450 & 1650 in England. Emmeline ultimately derives it's meaning from the old German word 'amal' meaning labour. It has the same meaning as Emily which is hardworking.

As you can probably tell I like unusual names. I went and found a site which gave a mammoth list of names from that period. If you fancy taking a look its run by ancestry.co.uk and the page is called Given Names.

I'm still not decided... if you have a preference let me know in the comments!!

I've mentioned before I've been making loads of outfits and here is literally just a couple of them.

It was fun since I have so much more room now, I look forward to doing some soon!! There are so many more outfits to post about!!!

Doll Carnival 2011 Pullips vs Modern Stylings

I've been on Pullip Fiction this morning and there has been a thread dedicated to this carnival. People have put their opinions down - which is fair do's as we are all free to express our opinions right?

Well, I myself have very few (if any) Pullips in complete stock that I like. Many Pullip collectors re-dress their dolls in modern clothes, which got me thinking about the type of dolls clothes I would like Groove to do.

Personally I like vintage clothes teamed with modern clothes. Another person agreed with me and included this link in their post to Moss Garden's Blog.

I particularly love the pictures below and its pretty close to what I had in mind.

Its fashion style shown is called Dolly Kei (also known as Dolly Style or Antique Doll). This style comes from Japan and can often look creepy and antique. They wear layers of vintage clothes to achieve the look.

---------------------------------------------

However, although some of these are kind of what I'm thinking, it really hasn't hit the nail on the head for me.

I'm not saying I'd like a complete retro look, but what about elements of modern and vintage in one outfit? I personally would love to see Groove teaming some modern elements like skinny jeans, or shorts over tights. The kind of stuff we all probably wear, but then with the addition some vintage elements.

A lot of us re-dress our dolls in modern clothing, wouldn't it be nice if we could have more of the modern elements in a stock outfit?

---------------------------------------------

I've been making a considerable amount of clothing recently (since I got my Ma's old Singer sewing machine!!! YAY - Thanks Ma!!!) and have been taking fashion elements from all over the place. (hopefully pics to come soon!!)

---------------------------------------------

I read a few blogs that really get the creative juices flowing.

When I first got into reading blogs one of the first blogs I found was Skunkboy Creatures. Not only does she make the cutest plushies she has an amazing sense of style. Also, strangely enough, it was from this blog I found out about Blythes which then led me to Pullips, so Katie if you read this... Thank you for helping me find a hobby that I adore!!!

Some of her outfits I adore and take inspiration from:

After following Katie on Skunkboy Creature this led me to Elsie on A Beautiful Mess

She writes and awesome blog with lots of crafty bits and even hairstyle tips. I love her style and would love to see a Pullip in any of her outfits.

I particularly like the following...

From both Katie & Elsie I found Mod Cloth and love their clothes (I still need to find out if they'll ship to the UK?) and have been taking alot of inspiration from their clothes.

And last but by no means least, I LOVE following peoples photostreams on Flickr:

foxifaeri
Also, check out her etsy shop and her own online store
I adore her photos and stylings...

-Poison Girl-

I adore her customisations and the way she styles her dolls...

J a c k y
Another great photographer and stylist of Pullips.

I do just adore looking at other peoples dolls on Flickr, it give me inspiration for clothes and outfits and also what dolls I like better than others!

This seems like a mammoth post but everyone has different tastes and how they style themselves and their dolls.

If you could style your perfect pullip stock - what would it be like?
